Descriptions
The paper shows on the production of a peculiar amino acid by natto bacillus.
The acid is produced in the cultural liquid of the organism, is probably identified with α, ε- Diaminopimelic acid and is much prbduced with the fortification of L-glutamic acid in culture media.
The acid is probably synthesized as a component of protein or polypeptide in the organism, because it is begen to appear in the culture media at the stage of the autolysis of the organism, but is never produced in biologically acidic culture media in which the organism does not autolize and is isolated from the hydrolysates of the protein or alkali insoluble fraction of the organism.
The acid is prooved in the culture media of several strains of Bacillus group.
