The author studied the effects on the maturing and the changes of carbohydrate and nitrogen centent in Naked Barley (var. Akashinriki) under the poor moisture centent in soil during the ripening period.
The results obtained are sumerized as follows.
The decrease of dry matter weight was observed in the plants under the poor moisture condition but dry matter percent wass higher than under the nomal condition.
The dry matter weight was considerably reduced as soil moisture was poorer, even though there was a definite increase in the dry matter percent i, e dry weight / fresh wt. ratio.
The decrease of both total nitrogen content in stems and leaves, and total carbohydrate content in stems was significantly observed in the plants under the drought condition.
