This study was conducted to make shortened version of social responsibility scale(SRS)applicable to upper grade of elementary school children. Based on Harris(1957), scale consisted of twenty items were developed. Fifth and sixth grade children from two public elementary schools were participate in this study. The index of the reliability of the scale(α)was .88 and the split-half reliability(Spearman-Brown formula)was .83. Test-retest reliability, two and half month interval, was .72. Validity of the scale was estimated by the concurrent validity. The correlation between two kinds of prosocial scales(1, 2)and SRS were .55 and .57. The correlation between empathy scale and the SRS was .57. The correlation between cooperation scale and the SRS was .49. Validity was also tested by peer evaluation. Children wrote down the name of class mates who were accountable, square shooter, loyal, and effective job. The correltion between scores of SRS and results of the student peer evaluation were significant - accountable(.28), square shooter(.24), loya(l .28), does an effective job(.28)and total scores of nomination(.30). These results shows SRS have high level of reliability and validity.
