Since 1957, a new disease of grapes appeared at Yasugi city in Shimane prefecture, and it has become a menace to the cultivators of grapes sround there.
The symptom of this disease resembles to that of dead arm of grape vine and/or that of the ripe rot. Pestalotia fungus was isolated from the diseased parts. The mycelial growth of this fungus was good at 26℃ and pH 5.2. The pathogenicity of this fungus was proved on the variety Koshu but almost negative results were given to the varieties Delaware and NeoMuscat. This disease seems to occur on a wounded parts of grape trees.
Sprays of Bordeaux mixture and Monzet were not so effective to this disease within the limit of experiments.
