A preliminary drosophilid survey was made during a period from early spring of 1957 to October of 1959 in Matsue City and its adjacent localities. The data are summarized in Table 1 and 2.
The following species ; Leucophenga ornatipennis, Mycodrosophila splendida, Drosophila histrioides, D. sexvittata, D. coracina, D. nipponica, D. angularis D. nigromaculata and D. sternopleuralis, were descrived for the first time in this destrict.
D. lutea, D. rufa, D. immigrans, D. bizonata and D. busckii were found to be dominant species in this area.
It was observed that D. lutea and D. rufa were active in early spring, while D. immigrans in early autumn. D. bizonata showed two peaks in spring and early autumn in the first two years, but suddenly decreased in 1959.
