Description
To lnduce liver injury, the late pregnant rabbits were administered chloroform 0.5ml/kg body weight, subcutaneously twice at intervals of 48 hours. They were sacrificed 48 hours after the final administration of chloroform. These histological findings of the liver were compared with hepatic injurg of non-pregnant rabbits induced by chloroform in the same way. Hydropie degeneration, acidophilic degeneration and eosinophilic coagulative necrosis are the common response of the liver to chloroform poisoning These leslons were decreased in late pregnant rabbits as compared with non-pregnant rabbits, but central fatty degeneration was significantly increased in late pregnant rabblts. Tne size of fat droplet in these hepatic cells were small to medium and the deposition of fat in the lobul were central to peripheral zone. These histological appearances were quite like as the diagnosis of acute fatty liver in late human pregnancy, and it seems to suggest that the pathogenesis of fatty degeneration may be related to the specific fatty metabolism in late pregnancy.
