Description | As a preliminary experiment on the breeding of excellent varieties for of tomataes manufucturing industry, twenty-five varieties and strains of tomatoes were investi-gated on total solids and contents of pigments.
(1) On total solids, "West Virginia AC 36" showed the highest percentage of total solid content among varieties used m these expenments. 〟West Virginia AC 700〝. Sanmarzana, Lampadina, Red Top and "Roma" followed this variety. The Varieties of which fruits size were large such as "Campbell No. 135 and No. 146", "Fukuju No. 2" and "Early Pakc" showed lower contents of total solids. In general, it wasasumed that there was negative correlation between fruits size and total solids content. (2) The group of varieties for manufucturing industry were all excellent on lycopene content (12.0-15.0mg % ). Any other varieties showed lower content off lycopene (7.38-11.0mg %). There was no significant difference in carotene content among the varieties examined. (3) The total solids and lycopene content of F_1 varieties were almost the same as their parents. |
