In recent years, socalled"Hachikami" disease of cryptomeria trees has been distributedin San-in District. The browning is found in the heart-wood of the trunk although obvious symptom is not observed externally. With the development of the disease, the lower trunk shows hypertrophy and the cracks due to abnormal division of cambium appear. These diseased trunks show the irregular form, and are attacked by the long horned beetle, Semanotus japonicus LACORDAIRE.
Cephalosporium sp. was found in high percentage among the isolated fungi from the browned wood. This fungus seems to be connected with the disease occurence.
