The purpose of this study is to summarize my educational practices of a lifelong study course on the history of musical exchanges between Japan and Korea, and to consider ideas on how we can better develop our international understanding in a lifelong study course in the local community.
In 1999 and 2001 I occupied the position of lecturer on the above-mentioned theme at the Tottori prefectural library. This lecture series was presented once every two months for a total of ten times in two years. In this paper I have summarized the contents of each lecture with comments and self-critics. I have also tried to include some historical examples of musical exchanges between Japan and Korea into the teaching materials so as to broaden its accessibility to various educational situations and thus benefiting a better general international understanding.
Also, in 2000 I gave a lecture on the same theme at the Busan National University of Education. A transcript of that lecture is also included to help ascertain whether my basic research on this theme could be used as a common teaching material in both Japan and Korea.
