Abstract
1949年に発表され742回というロング・ランを記録し，New York Drama Critics' Circle Awards と Pulitzer Prize とをあわせて獲得して以来，Arthur Miller の Death of a Salesman は Tennessee Williams の A Streetcar Named Desire と並んで，戦後アメリカ演劇の代表作としての位置を保って来ている。しかし，この作品に与えられた批評は実に様々であって，その評価はいまだに確定してはいないように思われる。この小論では，これら多様な批評を検討しながら，Death of a Salesman 批評の問題点を明らかにしてみたい。
