This investigation was made, in 1954 into the needles of "Akamatsu" trees injuried by Cecidomyia (Thecodiplosis) Brachyntera Schwage to form a part of our projected researches on the damage done by the insects in Shimane Prefectur.
1) The needles, once parasitized by Cecidomyia (Thecodiplosis) Brachyntera Schwage, stop growing in length and thickness, thus the correlation coefficient between them being smaller. And the central cylinders of injuned needles are also impeded to grow in width and thickness. 2) The parasitized needles have fewer resin ducts. 3) The relation between the volume of a gall and the number of the Parasites is corelational to a high degree. 4) The rate of injuried buds to normal was high at branches around the centre of the krone. |
