近代の導入から今日までおよそ120年になるが，その間日本の工芸は時代の流れに様々な形で影響され多くの矛盾を抱えながらも展開を遂げ今日に至っている。本論では日本の近代工芸における金属工芸の発展・変遷をたどりながら，造形美術界において金属工芸技法がもたらした影響を具体例を上げながら考察し，あわせて今後の工芸活動の方向性について考察するものである。
