Eight bioactive peptides were purified from the pulmonate snail Indoplanorbis exustus using the isolated crop of another pulmonate snail, Euhadra congenita, as bioassay system. Amino acid sequences of these peptides were the same as or homologous to those of peptides so far reported, including FMRFamide, SCP and buccalin family peptides. All these peptides showed inhibitory effects on spontaneous contractions of the crop. It seems that GDPFLRFamide serves as a representative peptide of FMRFamidefamily in this species.
