In this paper we reported the process of play therapy for the stuttering boy of 3 years and month. It was supposed that the cause of his stuttering is the hereditary trait,his personality and the parental or environmental pressure. He did not experience the basic security in infancy.
We gave him 20 sessions of group play therapy and afterwards 33 sessions of individual play therapy during one year and ten months. If we had treated him through only individual play therapy,it would not have taken such a long period. The process of play therapy was divided into six phases. The first is the introductory phase. The second is the resistant phase. The third is the phase when he expressed the aggression and the desire to be loved. The fourth is the reconstructive phase of his ego. The fifth phase is the separation from play therapy.
He recurred the stuttering and underwent the play therapy again. The sixth is the recurrence phase and the repetition of the fourth and the fifth phase.
He stuttered most heavily in the third phase - the aggression and the desire to be loved. Stuttering decreased in the fourth, the fifh and the sixth phase. We think this play therapy contributes to strengthening his ego.
