Descriptions
The aim of this study was to clarify the significance and difficulties of the comprehensive nursing practicum I. This practicum will start in 2011 and will include a nursing objective structured clinical examination(OSCE)which will be completed done prior to starting the nursing practicum in the hospital. The study subjects were 6 students who voluntarily participated in the preliminary nursing OSCE in 2010. Self-administered questionnaires were given to the students immediately after taking nursing OCSE and after starting the nursing practicum. The majority of participants answered that they received relatively good results in the written examination which assessed clinical knowledge; asking for symptoms, interviewing the sham patients, performing physical assessment and nursing care. In addition, all of them answered that OSCE is valuable for carrying out the nursing practicum in the hospital. However, they felt that they could not demonstrate their true abilities due to being under too much tension and the feedback fro m teachers was not sufficient. Therefore, mental
support and effective feedback from the teachers seems to be necessary to improve the nursing performance of students and to improve student’s confidence when carrying out the nursing practicum in the hospital.
