The College Forest in Sambe is situated in the central part of the Shimane prefecture and occupies the total area of 264 ha. which is divided into three parts of Shishidani, Ootani and Tane Forest. They are 300m to 624m above the sea level.
The features of the College Forest are as follows : 1. The greater part of the forest is assumed to belong to the forest region. 2. The forest consists of such deciduous broad-leaved trees as Castanea crenata, Carpinus Tschonoskii, C. laxiflora and Quercus serrata. 3. The majority of cleared area is dominated by Sasa spp.. 4. The total number of native ligneous plants in the forest is 208 in species and the list of the plants is following : |
