Descriptions
Parents' attitudes and feelipgs toward their handicapped children were cross-culturally compated by Ineans of applying the questionnaire named QRS (Holroyd, J.,1974), with whicl our subjects' scores were compared with those of some American samples.QRS Scores of our 36 female parents of tetarded children were compared with those of 22 female parents of Holroyd's sample whose children had been diagnosed as Down's syndrome. Also QRS scores of our 22 female parents of autistic children were compared with those of 22 female parents of autistic children of Holroyd sample. In both cases, our subjects tended to get lower scores on the most of QRS scales related to the parent pToblems, while, they got higher scores on the most Of QRS scales related to problems of the child. Such difference was regarded as the inauence of some socio-cultural variants which might affect on subjects responses. since the difference of scores between those samples were so small, however, it might be the most reliable to conclude that the psychic stresses of parents caused by their handicapped children are universal beyond some sociocultura} diferences between Japan and U. S. A.
