「生活科」における「精神薄弱児」教育観と教科概念

The View of the Education for the Mentally Handicapped and the Concept of the Course "Life"

In 1971 the course"Life"was added in the education for the mentally handicapped Since the begininng of the public education education has been framed by the demands of the economic world Especislly afterl960's this tendency has been conspicuous. In such situation the aim of the education for the mentally handicapped is taken at the social self-independence. Children who can not satisfy the aim have been shut out of the school education. Recently the number of severely handicapped children is increasing in special schools, and therefore the course "Life" was added as a means to let them approach the aim. For "life" does not have the view to guarantee the development of the children, "life" can not help including various inconsistencies in it. In this case the meaning of "life" is only the temporary title gathering some courses. Considering "life" as a course confuses the concept of the course. This confusion can not be avoidable in reducing the substance of the education for the mentally handicapped.
