The purpose of this paper is to consider the significance of Socratic dialogue as the classroom teaching method in the San-in Law School Plan. Many law school plans regard it as vital to introduce Socratic dialogue as one of teaching methods. However we don't have enough analysis about how Socratic dialogue in the classroom will contribute to their aim of training instructive and competent lawyers.
This paper would consider this question, with clarifying what Socratic dialogue is and what attention is paid to in doing this teaching method in the classroom so that its advantage is better utilized.
This paper concludes that Socratic dialogue teaching method is of great use to achieve the aim of the Law School education system, but we should realize it is the most important to assist law school students to acquire wisdom, i.e. professional legal mind , not to teach a volume of knowledge about laws and court decisions, through Socratic dialogue.
