A close coordination of the extension lecture of Shimane University with a novel public project to build up a multicultural society in Matsue

A novel public project has been started in Asahi community center in Matsue since this September, with which an extension lecture of Shimane University programmed by the authors closely coordinated. The aim of the project is to build up a multi cultural society, in which Matsue citizens, foreigners and newly coming Japanese from other region, live worthwhile lives with a sense of security. The project is constituted of the following works. A. To organize new Japanese for foreigners. B. To prepare public signs written in multi languages. C. To start disaster drills with foreigners by Asahi community center. The project also tries to transmit attractiveness of Matsue city, as a city of international tourism, to all over the world. A Japanese textbook named MATSUERIA, developed by the authors, was used as a tool of transmitting information.
