Description
This paper aims to clarify the machinability of sprayed materials. In this paper, two kinds of metallic sprayed materials and three kinds of ceramic sprayed materials were turned with several kinds of cutting tools, and fundamental machining data such as tool wear, cutting temperature and quality of surface finish were obtained. Further, diffusion test and wet cutting test etc. were conducted to clarify the tool wear mechanism and to improve the machinability of them. The main results obtained were as follows,1)The cutting temperature of metallic sprayed materials were very higher than that of S45C. 2)CBN and cermet tool showed the excellent cutting performance in machining of ferrous sprayed material, and it was possible to machine practically and high effciently. 3)Carbide tools(cutting grade for cast iron)were suitable for machining of l3Cr sprayed material, and carbide tool of lower Co content was better. 4)In dry cutting of l3Cr sprayed material,it was possible to machine only within the range of the cutting speed from V=20m/min to V=30m/min stably. 5)CBN tool was suitable for machining of TiO_2 and ZrO_2 ceramic sprayed materials. Also,it was difficult to cut Al_20_3 ceramic sprayed material excluding the wet cutting condition with sintered diamond tool because of high hardness of work material.
