Photosynthetic rate of the surface waters sampled from Lake Nakaumi and Honjou area in Lake Nakaumi was measured at monthly intervals during 3 years from April 1996 to December 1998 by using simulated in situ light and dark bottle method. Chlorophyll a content was almost always higher in Lake Nakaumi than in Honjou area and the annual mean gross photosynthesis per unit volume of water collected from the center of Lake Nakaumi was always higher than that collected from Honjou area. The total mean value of the gross photosynthetic rate of waters sampled from four sites in Lake Nakaumi and Honjou area was estimated to be c.30mg O_2・Chl.a^<-1>・h^<-1>.
