The Lakes Shinji and Nakaumi Environmental Database prototype(Tsuzuki et al., 2006)has been improved based on input from the Discussion Group on Lakes Shinji and Nakaumi Environmental Database, which met in Japanese Fiscal Year(JFY) 2005–06. This meeting included professionals from Shimane University and National and Local Governments. The goal of this discussion group meeting was to recommend future developments and additions to the environmental database. This article summarizes the results of the JFY 2006 Discussion Group meeting and presents recent modifi cations of the database prototype, some in response to these recommendations. The JFY 2006 additions/modifi cations include(1)a search function added to the site,(2)rearrangement of national and local government information, especially to include Tottori Prefecture information,(3)a brackish lakes database and a literature database on coastal lagoon environments,(4)atlases published in 1988 and 1992 from Sanin Regional Study Center, Shimane University, the predecessor to the Research Center for Coastal Lagoon Environments, and(5)sediment data of Lakes Shinji and Nakaumi.
