The purpose of this study was to find nursing care activities that nurse conduct daily for aged patients with prolonged consciousness disorder in hospitals for acute treatment. A semi-structured interview was conducted with 10 nurses to analyze the answers qualitatively and inductively. The results discovered six nursing care activities : (1)Focus on the disuse syndrome;(2)Prevent aggravation of disuse syndrome; (3)Adapt to changes in the status of the patient;(4)Protect the dignity of the patient;(5)Providing care based on patients’ history:and(6)Snuggle up to feelings of family. Results also suggest that nurses provided nursing care to patients to support them in leading their own lives as themselves, and to maintain a relationship with their family, which is likely to be difficult, by being careful about the possibility of disuse syndrome and focusing on helping patients maintain their current condition.
