Two species and a variety of Lonicera in Shimane prefecture, Japan were observed cytologically. As the results, the somatic chromosomes2n=18of diploid, and 2n=27of triploid were recorded newly in Lonicera japonica. The irregular(sterile)pollens of the triploid suggested the hybridization between diploid and tetraploid species, or the exist of tetraploid(intraspecific)in the Lonicera japonica population. The chromosome number2n= 18of L.affinis was confirmed to be consistent with that reported out of Shimane prefecture, and, the tetraploid(2n=36)was reported in Lonicera gracilipes var glabra first time.
