Description
This paper aims to discuss the status of women in Middle English literature and society. The position which they enjoyed in romances and love lyrics was in fact very different from that which they held in society and I shall look at why there is such a divergence between the real status of ordinary women and the exalted courtly lady of romances and lyrics.
