Description
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of social skills on nursing performance of clinical nurses. Data were collected with 213 nurses of a hospital using questionnaires about nursing performance and social skills in October 2005, and analyzed to find the subjective evaluation scores of nursing performance and social skills, and to identify the relationship between them by years of nursing experience. Results showed both nursing performance and social skills likely increased with the period of the experience. About the relationship between them, there are significantly high correlation with all survey items for nurses of 21 and over and 4-10 years of nursing experience, and between planning skill and education/evaluation dimension of nursing performance for those of 0-3, and between advanced skill and readership and critical care of nursing performance for those of 11-20. Although social skills effects unequally on development of nursing performance, our findings suggest social skills effects on the stage of career which has the expected nursing performance.
