Description
The changes of the amount of nutrient elements in a clear-cutting area for two years after cutting were studied in Sanbe Forest of Shimane University.
1. The concentration of nitrogen, potassium and calcium of trees and herbs were higher after cutting than before cutting.
2. The concentration of nutrient elements of trees, herbs and sasa were higher at the lower part than at the upper part of slope.
3. The amount of nutrient elements in a clear-cutting area generally depended on the weight of above ground biomass.
4. At the second year after cutting, the amount of nutrients were 75.5-24.2 for nitrogen, 4.33-1.19 for phosphorus, 65.6-20.2 for potassium, 7.52-2.89f or magnesium and 57.0-23.6kg/ha for calcium. These amount corresponded to the amount returned by litter fall in the natural forest before cutting.
